During an investigation into the fire after it was extinguished human remains were found in the home.
CLIFTON -- Human remains were found inside a home after a fire damaged the structure on New Years Day, police said.
The fire on Pershing Road was reported at about 2 p.n. Friday, police said.
During an investigation into the fire after firefighters extinguished the blaze, investigators found human remains inside the house.
The Essex County Medical Examiner's Office and the Passaic County Sheriff's Department's Crime Scene Unit were called to assist in the investigation.
Police said Saturday they had comment as to the cause or origin of the fire, the nature of the investigation, or as to the identity of the body found.
The matter remains under investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, the Clifton police and fire departments.
