Randy James' upcoming show at New Jersey Performing Arts Center is both familiar and out of his comfort zone. Watch video

Randy James' upcoming show at New Jersey Performing Arts Center is familiar, yet still beyond his comfort zone. True, the choreographer is dusting off an old piece of work, re-choreographing his 1998 ballet based on "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." But James, who founded the 10 Hairy Legs dance company in 2012, is generally accustomed to a cast less-than-fitting for the tale.

"I wanted to establish 10 Hairy Legs as an [all male] dance company," James remarked. "I feel we've done that." When NJPAC approached him about doing a show of his work, James suggested re-vamping his C.S. Lewis adaptation. Since the production features female dancers, James decided to bill the show under the name "10 HL Projects."

Except for the music, a selection of Mozart, pretty much everything is new. "I have all new dancers, new choreography. We have new sets, new lights new costumes. I'm a very different person than I was in 1998."

NJPAC will feature the "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," Jan. 30 and 31m with tickets starting at $29. For tickets, visit their website.
