Newark man was killed outside his home last August, authorities said.
NEWARK -- Authorities have arrested a suspect in the August 2015 shooting death of a 53-year-old man outside his Newark home.
Davon Branch, 24, of Newark, was arrested on murder and weapons charges in connection with the Aug. 19, 2015 death of Michael Dantzler, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced in a joint release Monday afternoon.
Dantzler was shot and killed outside his South 11th Street home at about 7:45 p.m., officials said. His death was one in a string of homicides during a bloody week in Newark last summer.
Branch, who was arrested Monday in the 200 block of South Orange Avenue, is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $750,000 bail, authorities said.
An Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Katherine Carter declined to comment on what may have prompted the shooting, or if the two men knew one another prior to it. But, she did say it was not the result of a robbery.
